Kung Ven, The Director of Engineering

    Kung Ven graduated with Master and Bachelor of Science degrees from Georgia Tech in Electrical Engineering. Years later, Kung went on to achieve his MBA from Georgia State University. Kung is a licensed professional engineer in twelve states. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional, an active member of the USGBC, CMAA, and IEEE.

    Kung’s experience stems from nearly two decades of building engineering and construction services. His expertise includes the design of medium- and low-voltage power distribution systems, instrumentation & controls, emergency and prime power generators, uninterruptible power supply, grounding, lighting, life safety and security systems, lightning protection, and telecommunications and technology systems.

    In addition to design, Kung’s work also includes serving as program and project manager, owner’s rep, and working in the field performing commissioning and testing, construction administration, site inspections, energy audits, and property and facility condition assessments. He has worked in a variety of market sectors including mission-critical, federal, municipality, commercial/corporate, healthcare, higher education and K-12, transportation and aviation, hospitality, theme & entertainment, water/wastewater, institutional/justice, and industrial facilities.

    Kung’s portfolio includes top clients such as FedEx, Microsoft, Piedmont Healthcare, DeKalb County Schools District, Emory University, City of Atlanta, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, GDOT, MARTA, Georgia Building Authority, NAVFAC, USACE, NASA, USPS, FAA, and BlueCross BlueShield, to name a few. In addition to his experience in the industry, he continues to make time to travel and explore new places.

    Kung has also successfully published two papers: “Technologies and Design Elements Associated with Microgrids” in April 2018, in addition to “Energy & Resiliency, Project Case Studies – Challenges, Solutions, Benefits, Lessons Learned” in February 2019.

    As Director of Engineering for Conway & Owen, Kung will lead our multi-discipline engineering team in project execution and delivery, along with supporting the firm’s business development efforts.

      Senior Living in Watkinsville, GA

      The 245,000 square foot, multi-phased Presbyterian Homes of Georgia senior living campus includes Independent Living Apartment Building and a Village Center and Health Services Center building. The independent Living Apartment Building is a three-story structure composed of independent units with varying unit floor plans. Amenities in the building include community gather spaces consisting of a fireside room, solarium, and a guest suite. The Village Center and Health Services Center building is separated into two parts. The Village Center includes main kitchen/dining venues, auditorium, chapel, fitness center, indoor pool, physical therapy, library and learning center, pub/billiards, and administrative offices. The Health Services Center includes memory care, skilled nursing, assisted living, along with a fireside room, sunroom, hair salon, and private family rooms. Both facilities are services by an underground parking. Project also includes cottage house units located on campus. Conway & Owen is working closely with architect Batson Associates on the design of this project.

        Audio/Visual & Acoustics Design Group Has a New Leader

        Chuck Dowd, P.E. graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and also received a Master of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with Multidisciplinary Program in Acoustical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. Chuck is a licensed professional electrical engineer for Georgia and Alabama, and carries a Georgia Low-Voltage Telecommunication license as well. This Alabama native has 27 years of audio-visual and low voltage systems design experience including room acoustics, noise isolation, and mechanical noise mitigation in addition to audio-visual systems design. His involvement in AVIXA, the International Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association, continues to provide him access to the latest effective technologies and studies in his area of expertise. His portfolio includes designing systems for notable Southeast owners including United Therapeutics, USDA, Atlanta Falcons, University of Georgia, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Lanier Technical College, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Auburn University to name a few. In addition to his experience in the industry, Chuck continues to make an impact in his community by leading a group of technical and on-stage volunteers to produce engaging bible story, singing, and other group activity presentations for nearly 200 first and second graders.

          Thyssenkrupp North American Headquarters Joining The Battery at SunTrust Park

          Another exciting addition is underway at The Battery at SunTrust Park, Cobb County, GA. Recently announced, the Thyssenkrupp headquarters building is moving to Georgia, which makes for an exciting addition to Circle 75.

          The 235,000 SF North American headquarters is a three-building development specifically designed for Thyssenkrupp and will be home to 900 full-time employees. The project would include offices for its corporate headquarters along with shared service and administrative functions, and an elevator-testing tower.

            Auburn University was recently named #1 Best College Athletic Facilities by The Princeton Review! Conway & Owen has been providing design services for Auburn University for over a decade and we have done so for EVERY Auburn University athletic department.
