Riverbend Correctional Facility
MILLEDGEVILLE, GA
A new 1,500 bed, $58 million, medium-security privately run prison complex in Milledgeville, Georgia. The complex is approximately 290,000 square feet and includes 12 individual buildings. Six of the buildings house the dorm type cells and isolation style cells. Included in the spaces are a building with administrative offices, support areas, waiting/visitor/lobby, armory, and a large mail room. A second building that houses the infirmary spaces includes an ER, X-ray, exam rooms, infirmary rooms (including spaces for isolation inmates), nurse’s station, pharmacy, and dental exam rooms. The kitchen is equipped with professional cooler storage, hoods, and cooking equipment. The two dining halls accommodate over 200 seats and have laundry facilities, contact visitor’s and non-contact visitor’s areas, and a commissary. This building is also the home for the intake holding and processing cells with medical screening, sally port, interview rooms, and support offices. Other buildings in the complex house a library, chapel, and vocational classrooms as well as general classrooms. The full prison system incorporates a campus chilled water system with air cooled chillers. The design meets LEED Silver design criteria.
